P2RS AND DOA ORGANISED FOUR DAYS TRAINING OF TRAINERS AND FARMERS WORKSHOP ON CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE 19-23RD MAY 17

The Building Resilience on Food and Nutrition for Sahel (P2RS) in collaboration with Department of Agriculture (DoA) on Saturday, 20 May 2017 organised four days training for farmers on Conservation Agriculture (CA) at Jenoi in Lower River Region (LRR).

In his opening statement Mr. Lamin A. Marong Regional Agricultural Director (LRR), underscored the importance of the training noting that it would enable farmers to gain the requisite skills in order to improve on their production and productivity.

Mr. Kebba Manka, lead Conservation specialist on (P2RS) expressed delight for realising that farmers are adopting the Conservation Agriculture (CA) practice to point of impressing donors to  continue supporting the program.

Mr. Ebou Mendy Director of Administration (DoA) and focal person for P2RS in delivering his statement noted that the CA programme is centred on both horticulture and field crops. He reported that farming implements have been distributed to all farmers to make work more efficient and effective.

Mr. Falalo Touray Director General (DoA) in his launching remarks emphasized the importance of Conservation Agriculture in mitigating and adapting to climate change for agricultural development. DG Touray also urged the extension workers to improve on their service delivery in order to improve agricultural productivity noting that their work is central in the development of agriculture in the country. He also challenged the trainees to ask questions to be able to tap knowledge for guiding other farmers. Other speakers included Mr. Ebrima Saidy , Mr. Abdou Jobe a soil expert at the Soils and Water Management Services ( SWMS) who echoed similar remarks.
